Excellent recent news! OGI has been working with Sen. Whitehouse (RI) to expand the USDA's Snow Telemetry (SNOTEL) network to include weather stations above tree line and near glaciers - and SUCCESS! OGI petitioned OR and WA senators to support Whitehouse's budget expansion while also getting on board the senators of WY (without discussing the reason for high elevation snow/water/glacier change).
The SNOTEL budget will be increased by 33% to include new stations in western US glaciated states (OR, WA, WY, MT and CA). Oregon will be getting stations near to the glaciers we know and love! These will be new to the US stations that have recently been developed in New Zealand to operate in harsh, adverse conditions.
